Energy technology company Plug Power has announced that Carrefour has installed its GenDrive fuel-cell units in its Vendin-lès-Béthune logistics hub.
The units will be deployed in STILL-brand class-2 and class-3 electric lift trucks in the new northern-France supply-chain centre, a Plug Power press release confirmed.
'The agreement is part of a significant roll-out of Plug Power’s GenDrive fuel-cell solution in European countries, where many firms are seeking new technologies that can deliver higher productivity and better environmental sustainability,' according to the American firm.
'This supports Carrefour’s commitments to responsible retailing, including reducing energy consumption by 30% and greenhouse-gas emissions by 40% by 2025.
'In new facilities like Carrefour’s Vendin distribution centre, the use of hydrogen allows companies to avoid the high costs of building a battery room and related upgrades to electrical infrastructure, and instead apply that budget to more cost-effective hydrogen infrastructure. Carrefour’s hydrogen infrastructure will be completed in the coming months, enabling the project to be commissioned in late 2016.'
