Carrefour Spain has made it mandatory for its meat suppliers to install surveillance cameras in their abattoirs.
The retailer has partnered with the NGO Equalia for this initiative, which is designed to promote animal rights and strengthen Carrefour’s monitoring system.
It is part of a broader campaign by the retailer, along with suppliers, to define a code of animal welfare that will involve a series of formal commitments.
The move comes two months after Carrefour France asked suppliers to install cameras in their slaughterhouses.
