Carrefour Spain has begun tests to start using 'mega trucks', vehicles with 6 axles, which are more than 25 metres long and can carry 60 tonnes of weight.
As reported by logisticaprofesional.com, the first trials took place at the company's distribution platform in Miralcampo (Azuqueca de Henares, Guadalajara), with the company Almacenaje y Total Distribución Logística and a contribution from Guillén Group.
Carrefour plans to incorporate its first fleet of mega trucks before the year ends.
The vehicles have the space to carry 18 Europallets in the first link trailer and 34 ones in a semi-trailer. This combination allows for an increase of 53% in the company's capacity for transporting pallets on a journey, compared to what a semi-trailer can supply on its own. This will also represent a considerable saving in fuel and CO2 emissions.
