Portuguese hypermarket chain Continente is promoting national pork meat under its private label brand in all of its 255 stores.
Since the start of 2017, Continente has purchased about 16,000 tonnes of Portuguese pork for a value of around €42 million.
At the Sonae MC meat processing centre in Santarém, Continente receives all the meat, including pork, and guarantees a weekly supply of more than 1,000 tonnes of Portuguese meat to its stores.
National Production
Continente says that it has long supported national production and the sustained development of the sector through the Clube de Produtores Continente (Continente Producers' Club) - a body that promotes the sharing and application of best practices, including the adoption of control and traceability systems to ensure safety and quality in partnership with local producers.
The economic sustainability of partners and suppliers and the best value offer for customers are two main priorities for Continente.
