The Global Action Platform has praised Danone for its positive initiatives in health, nutrition, and sound water-management, awarding it the 2016 Global Shared Value Award.
The accolade was awarded at the Global Action Summit on 17 November.
As key factors in their decision, judges cited Danone’s creation of a €100 million fund supporting local initiatives with positive environmental, social and governance impact; Nutricia Research programmes that partner public, private, and academic organizations in 55 countries for food and health innovations; and Danone's high ranking on environmental, health, nutrition, packaging, and water-related risk management.
Emmanuel Faber, CEO of Danone, said, "For Danone, business is about value creation, in a way which goes beyond a traditional economic definition. Our belief is that long term, sustainable growth comes only through focusing on the benefits we can bring to the people, the cultures and the communities with whom we work.”
Cosmetics company L'Oréal has recently been lauded for its sustainable management of water by the Carbon Disclosure Project, receiving a spot on the ‘Water A List'.
