Danone Yoghurt Hit By Supply Disruption At Arla

Retailers in the UK have been hit with shortages of Danone yoghurt products, following a supply chain disruption issue at global dairy company Arla.

Arla, which provides warehouse storage in the UK for Danone brands such as Activia and Actimel, moved the Danone yoghurt products to a new regional distribution centre at a Hertfordshire business park earlier this month.

All of Danone's UK customers have been affected by the warehousing issue, which combined with a 'systems interface issue which affected notification of product intake from Danone' to cause the supply shortfall, according to a spokeswoman for Arla.

While Arla has been forced to ration the supply of Danone products to retailers, yoghurt rival Müller has ramped up its supply to fill the shortfall.

The supply chain hiccup comes as the global dairy co-operative company prepares to open the biggest fresh milk dairy in the world at Aylesbury, on the outskirts of London, this autumn.
