Belgian retailer Delhaize has announced it will continue its long-standing collaboration with Van Moer Logistics by extending its transport contract with the logistics service provider until 2030.
As part of the agreement, both companies will continue to focus on further sustainability of their transport activities by analysing market developments and evaluating investments.
'Step By Step'
“We want to make our transport more sustainable step by step in a financially and operationally feasible way," said Jonathan Van Dessel, transport director at Delhaize. "This can only be done on the basis of a strong partnership, and for us Van Moer Logistics is an ideal partner for this."
The partnership between Van Moer Logistics and Delhaize began in 2011 when the Antwerp logistics service provider acquired Delhaize's own transport company Wambacq-Peeters in Zellik. This transport contract is now being extended for the third time.
Since 2020, Van Moer Logistics has supplied 40 manned terminal vehicles that provide trailer logistics in the distribution centre in Zellik. Van Moer Logistics employs more than 200 people directly for Delhaize.
Sustainability Objectives
Both companies are committed to contributing to the sustainability objectives of the European Union. LNG has been chosen as a transition technology since 2020, which can result in CO2 savings of up to 20%.
Within their strategic partnership, Van Moer Logistics and Delhaize mutually commit to evaluating investments on an ongoing basis based on market developments. In the first quarter of 2025, Van Moer Logistics will deploy five additional LNG trucks to serve the busy city centres of Brussels, Ghent, and Antwerp. In total, 34 LNG trucks will then be driving for Delhaize.
