German cooperative grocer Edeka will open a €130 million central distribution depot this month. The new full-range facility in the Bavarian town of Landsberg am Lech will be run through the group's regional co-operative Südbayern (South Bavaria).
The 53,000 square metre (570,000 square feet) warehouse will be the central distribution centre for the region, with the closure of the group's facilites in Penzberg and Betzigau. Other full-range locations in Straubing, Gaimersheim and Trostberg are to be converted to fresh produce distribution warehouses for the region.
Fully automated, it will use Witron’s Order Picking Machinery and 14 Case Order Machines, and its the Dynamic Picking Solution. (25 Jan)
