Edeka Südwest has outlined plans to open a new central warehouse in Rastatt, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, with a €100 million investment.
The facility will cover approximately 142,000 square metres of space, including a partially-automated central warehouse and additional facilities. Some 400 jobs will be created when the plant is fully operational, in approximately two years.
The location of the facility was chosen due to its 'optimal' access to major travel routes.
Edeka Südwest spokesperson Wolfgang Seiler said that the new facility was necessary to "strengthen the current logistics centres" operated by Edeka in the region.
Edeka Südwest generated around €8.6 billion in sales in 2016.
