Spanish retailer Eroski today officially opened a brand new logistics centre in Mercapalma, Palma de Mallorca.
The massive 10,207 meter squared building is fully refrigerated, and is built especially to aid its fresh produce supply chain.
The Spanish cooperative group invested €20 million into the new centre, which it says will be able to manage an average of 54,000 boxes of fresh produce daily.
110 people have been hired to work in Mercapalma, which will serve 200 Eroski supermarkets in Baleares.
Alfredo Herraez, Eroski Director in Baleares explained: “The new platform will improve the efficiency in our logistic process. We will be able to offer fresh produce with more quality at a cheaper price because we are cutting the time spent between production and the availability for customers in the supermarket”.
