Spanish retailer Eroski has announced that it has increased the sale of local products from the Navarra region by 14% last year.
The retailer reported that the biggest growth was in the butchery department, where sales increasing by 47%. Fresh produce was the second fastest growing category, increasing by 16%, followed by cooked pork meats, which grew by 14%.
Eroski sells almost 1,500 SKUs sourced from more than 150 small local producers in the Navarra region. Annual purchases from these suppliers are valued at up to €223 million.

Eroski recently gathered 150 Navarre food and agriculture suppliers to discuss the many challenges facing the sector.
Minister of rural development, environment and local administration, Isabel Elizalde, together with the director general for industry, energy and innovation, Izaskun Goñi, were both at the event, along with other many industry experts.
"Our new strategy is based on health and sustainability, and within this strategy, local products are essential to continue reinforcing our commitment and support for Navarre regional products," said commercial director of local products, Asun Bastida.
"Eroski has maintained a very strong link with Navarra for more than 47 years, linked to a firm commitment to maximise the development of local economies to create wealth."
