Italian pasta producer De Cecco has seen a 6% growth in production during the first half of 2016 to 641,000 tonnes, corresponding to a 4.2% increase in turnover (from pasta alone).
Foreign sales contributed significantly to this positive performance, with growth of 21.4% in the US, 14.3% in France, 6.1% in Germany, 17.2% in the Netherlands, 12.4% in Mexico and 9.5% in Switzerland, reports Italian daily Il Sole 24 Ore.
There has been a growing consumer focus on wholewheat pasta and organic Kamut, resulting in increased sales of 132% and 33%, respectively, according to Marco Camplone, director of external relations at De Cecco.
The company has also seen a 50.5% growth at its olive oil unit Olearia De Cecco during H1 2016, to 56,000 tonnes, boosting turnover by 47.4%.
