Hungarian dairy company Alföldi Tej has agreed to sell a Debrecen-based production facility to FrieslandCampina Hungary.
In a statement, FrieslandCampina Hungary said it will The new owner will continue the production of dairy products without interruption, while employment will be maintained.
Besides the purchase and sale agreement, the two companies also signed a toll manufacturing agreement, guaranteeing that the products currently produced in the Debrecen plant will continue to be produced there and marketed by FrieslandCampina going forward.
Peter Szautner, managing director of FrieslandCampina Hungary, said that the agreement is in line with the company’s objective to retain jobs and to safeguard the future of the dairy industry in Debrecen.
The agreement received approval by local competition authorities, however the deal will not be enacted for a number of weeks, as the two parties have to complete some necessary procedures.
With annual revenue of €11.3 billion, FrieslandCampina is one of the world’s five largest dairy companies. The Amersfoort, Netherlands-based company supplies consumer products such as dairy-based beverages, infant nutrition, cheese and desserts in many European countries, Asia and Africa.
