Italian food and agriculture group Granarolo has acquired two distributors of Italian brands in Sweden and Switzerland.
Granarolo has taken a 50 per cent stake in Matric Italgross, the second largest commercial platform for Italian food and wine products in Sweden, and owner of the Matric and Matilda brands. With a turnover of SEK 185 million (€20 million) in 2015, Matric has three logistics platforms that guarantee coverage throughout Sweden.
Granarolo is already a leader in terms of market share in the Scandinavian area, where it sells fresh Italian cheese.
In Switzerland, Granarolo Group purchased 60 per cent of Comarsa, the leading distributor of Italian food (cheese, oil and vinegar, pasta, vegetable sauces, frozen foods), with a turnover of CHF 29 million (€27 million). This acquisition will allow Granarolo to enter the Swiss market, initially with its own dairy products and hams.
The two deals will allow the Italian company to develop synergies on the local markets and also promote further development of its core products (cheese in particular). With its latest acquisitions, Granarolo aims to exceed 35 per cent of turnover produced outside Italy in the next three-year period.
