Phil Hogan, the EU's commissioner for agriculture, has praised Spain's transparent supply chains.
He posited that the Mediterranean country's laws on supply chain good practice and food-traceability are something to which other member states should aspire. He also spoke favourably of the United Kingdom's initiative to make an office to oversee and ensure fair trade in the nation's fresh produce sector.
Speaking at the VII Congress of Agricultural Cooperatives, he announced "In the future, we'll have to produce more with less water, supplies, or energy, without compromising traceability, respecting the environment and meeting the increasing global demand for food."
He stressed also the importance job-creation in the agribusiness sector, financing farmers, and reducing the bureaucracy of the Common Agricultural Policy.
