Hungarian condiments maker Univer Product inaugurated a HUF 3.5 bln (€11 million) expansion at its base in Kecskemét.
Best known for its Piros Arany (Red Gold) and Er?s Pista paprika products, Univer will triple the company's raw tomato processing capacity and process 75,000 tonnes of tomato a year, said CEO Károly Molitorisz. The ribbon cutting ceremony was conducted by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
The current development project is aimed at the overall renewal of the technology and energy systems of Univer’s tomato processing plant in Kecskemét. The company is planning to cope with its increased demand for raw materials by relying on local farmers in line with the objectives to generate employment under the strategic agreement concluded by Univer Product Zrt and the Hungarian Ministry of Rural Development. Additionally, Univer wishes to set up a model farm near Kecskemét mainly specializing in tomato in order to help its tomato suppliers with tomato seedlings and state-of-the-art growing technology.
Private label products supplied to retail chains and gastronomy franchise systems comprise part of Univer’s brands. The company has been supplying a wide range of McDonald’s sandwich sauces, ketchup, mustard and salad dressings for more than 25 years.
The company also produces mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, salad dressings and table sauces, the baby food they produce contains no added sugar and gluten. Unilever’s products are available worldwide; most of their export goes to Germany, Poland and Croatia.
