Swedish retailer ICA has announced that its new e-commerce warehouse in Gothenburg will offer better customer services and create new employment opportunities.
The 17,000 square-metre warehouse is under construction in Arenadalsvägen, and is expected to be operational by the end of 2020.
Initially, it will employ around 100 to 150 people, which will later increase to more than 500, the company said.
'Higher Demands'
“E-commerce is growing fast in Gothenburg, and customers are putting higher demands on deliveries and the range," commented Anders Svensson, CEO of ICA Sweden.
"Many ICA stores in the greater Gothenburg area have made successful ventures into e-commerce, but the volumes have now reached a level where it is easier and more efficient for the ICA stores to coordinate order picking and deliveries in a joint e-commerce warehouse."
The warehouse will also cater to ICA store customers with home delivery requirements.
ICA ventured into e-commerce in 2015 and has since then become one of the largest players in the grocery e-commerce sector in the country.
