A study by Coop Italia has found that Italian consumers are planning to spend more on festive items this year compared to last year.
Christmas products (+5% increase in sales compared to a year ago), gourmet and high quality products (+5%), local specialities (+3%), branded and private label products (both registering a growth of 2%) will dominate the Christmas and New Year’s Eve menus of Italians, the study found.
The findings were revealed in the Coop Christmas Barometer, a survey that polled more than 4,000 Italians.
Most Italians will celebrate both Christmas (60%) and New Year’s Eve (80%) at home, it found.
Significantly, spend on gifts will grow for the first time in six years, especially in North West Italy (+4%).
Overall, the most popular gifts are packaged food, perfumes and personal care products, toys and clothing.
