A new survey about the eating habits of Italians has found that local (74.1%) and seasonal products (80.4%), are among the favourite purchases of consumers.
According to the Eurispes Italia Report 2017, many Italian consumers (53.1%) often buy products with DOP, IGP, DOC origin. In addition, 39.4% often buy organic products.
Italians increasingly check the label (75.4%) and food provenance of foods they purchase; some 66.9% say that they do not purchase 'unknown' brands. 59.9% prefer not to buy products containing palm oil.
In terms of specific diets, 7.6% of respondents say that they follow a vegetarian or vegan diet. Specifically, 4.6% of those surveyed were vegetarian, down on the same figure last year, while 3% of respondents are vegan.
