Italian food manufacturer Cremonini has opened a cured meat plant in Canada and is preparing to acquire a large Hong Kong-based distributor.
Speaking to daily Il Sole 24 Ore, the managing director of Inalca (a subsidiary of the Cremonini group) said that the meat plant is a joint venture with Canadian company Italpasta. He added that Inalca has 60% of the shares of the €4 million partnership that will also serve the US market.
Ontario-based Italpasta produces pasta and imports Italian brands such as Colussi, Bauli, Misura, and Agnesi. For its part, Inalca is dedicated to manufacturing beef, cured meats, and snacks.
Meanwhile, another Cremonini subsidiary, Inalca Food & Beverage, which specialises in the international distribution of Italian food, is about to acquire a Hong Kong-based distribution company.
Over the past few years, Inalca Food & Beverage, which mainly focuses on the HoReCa channel, has acquired distribution companies in Thailand, Australia, Malaysia and, most recently, Spain. Future targets include Singapore, The Philippines and the Caribbean.
Inalca Food & Beverage distributes around 800 products (90% of which are Italian), through seven distribution platforms.
