Dutch retailer Jumbo Supermarkten has opened a new e-fulfilment centre (EFC) in Bleiswijk to deliver groceries ordered online.
The EFC will fulfil orders from customers in North Holland, South Holland and Zeeland.
Supply chain director at Jumbo Supermarkten, Karel de Jong, said, "Jumbo is a major player in this market and we want to continue to respond to the needs of our customers.
"With this new EFC, we are closer to our customers in the provinces of North and South Holland. This means that we drive far fewer kilometers than before to deliver the groceries to their homes. This contributes to lowering our CO2 emissions."
Sustainable Building
The new EFC in Bleiswijk meets the 'BREEAM Outstanding' certification requirements, which means that the facility is made with sustainable and energy-saving materials.
The roof features approximately 15,500 solar panels, with an annual total capacity comparable to the energy requirements of about 1,700 households.
The indoor air-conditioning system adjusts the air, and the lighting plan automatically adjusts the light in the rooms based on the light from outside.
The building has also implemented various noise-reducing measures to create an optimal working environment.
The exterior of the building also features an eco-friendly design with an insect hotel, native trees, grass and flowers, among others.
