Lidl has announced the opening of a new regional distribution centre in Southampton, in the UK, following an investment of £55 million.
The new development, which underlines Lidl's commitment to expanding in the UK, covers 39,000 square metres of space, making it the company's biggest DC in the country.
The facility will help to service stores in Hampshire, Dorset and West Sussex, supporting Lidl’s expanding operations in the south of England, according to the retailer.
“The opening of our new Southampton RDC marks an incredibly exciting time for the business, particularly in the south," said Marco Ivone, regional director at Lidl UK.
"Not only is it necessary to accommodate the scale of our existing and future operations in the area, we have been able to create significant job opportunities as a result of the new warehouse, and will continue to invest in the south as we move forward with our expansion plans."
Lidl made a commitment in November of last year to invest £1.5 billion over the next three years in building its footprint in the UK.
