L’Oréal Joins 'Responsible Mica Initiative'

L’Oréal has joined the Responsible Mica Initiative, which seeks to stamp out child labour and poor working conditions in India’s mica supply chains.

The mineral is commonly used as an effect pigment in the cosmetics industry.

L’Oréal says it believes ‘discontinuing the use of Indian mica would further weaken the situation in the region. In addition, local NGOs and expert organisations are supportive of efforts made to secure the mica supply chain and thus improve the living and working conditions in the region.’

The French cosmetics giant hopes its Indian customer base will have increased four-fold by 2020 to reach 150 million people.

The company last year launched Garnier Ultra Blends in India, making it the first Asian country in which the brand, which incorporates oils, creams, shampoos and conditioners, has a presence.
