Marks and Spencer is effecting a plan to operate fewer distribution centres across the UK.
It has announced that it will discontinue its activity in two plants in Coventry and Leicester respectively. The closures of the centers, which distribute homeware and apparel, will result in the loss of al least 150 jobs in logistics, human resources, and catering.
M&S said five years ago that it wished to work with just six large warehouses across Britain, at which point it had a network of over 100 distribution centers.
DHL, which runs the Coventry plant, said it would "enter into a period of consultation both with the trade unions and individually with affected employees to discuss ways to minimise the impact."
"We understand that it will be an unsettling time for those involved and we will do all we can to support," M&S said.
