Metro Cash & Carry has announced that it plans to close its distribution centre in Essen by mid-2018.
The closure of the Essen outlet, which is located to Metro's headquarters in Düsseldorf, comes as part of a logistics restructuring exercise that will see seven distribution centers merge into four facilities.
Up to 330 employees will be affected by the site closure.
Other Metro Cash & Carry DCs in Frechen, Bingen, Gimbsheim, Kamen, Unna and Gernsheim are also affected by the measure, with the group planning to open new facilities in Velbert, Witten and Worms, as well as expand its Hamm facility.
