Migros Rewarded For Commitment To Animal Welfare

Swiss retailer Migros has reported that it has secured a top position in an assessment carried out by the Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare (BBFAW).

It shares its first time 'leadership' position with five companies worldwide.

The BBFAW assessed 100 leading companies in food retail, food production and food service, in partnership with animal welfare organisations 'Compassion in World Farming' and 'The World Society for the Protection of Animals' (WSPA),

Criteria included the company's commitment to animal well-being, openness to innovation and its accountability.

Migros secured the top position for its clear guidelines regarding animal welfare, and for its commitment to apply the same strict Swiss animal welfare regulations to its imported produce.

"Our ranking recognises Migros' leading role in the area of animal welfare and its determination to achieve high animal welfare standards, regardless of the species, or its country of production," said Nicky Amos, executive director of the BBFAW.

Migros sells a large proportion of its meat products under the stringent Swiss animal welfare labels TerraSuisse and Migros Bio.
