Migros has officially brought the largest solar power plant in Switzerland into full operation.
The system, which is located on the roof of the retailer's distribution centre in Neuendorf, feeds into the public grid, providing electricity for around 1300 households.
More than 20,000 solar panels were installed onto the centre's rooftops, corresponding to an area of around 123 tennis courts.
The Swiss solar companies TRITEC served as general contractor for the entire project, through construction to commissioning. The project was also supported by the Energy Office of Zurich.
The solar project comes as part retailer's sustainable programme, Generation M, which aims to promote renewable energy, with a further 25 rooftop solar systems already in operation under the scheme.
