Nestlé Invests HUF 300m In Hungarian Factory

Nestlé Hungária is completing a five-year, HUF 300-million investment cycle in its Bük factory with a final HUF 55 million injection for a new Purina production line.

This project commenced in 2020, and marks the largest investment in Hungary's food industry, according to the food giant.

The new facility will produce over 50,000 tonnes of pet food annually, generating over 130 new jobs in the region.

With this expansion, Nestlé Hungária's total investment in Hungary exceeds HUF 382 million, with HUF 325 million dedicated to the Bük factory alone.

According to Péter Noszek, the managing director of Nestlé Hungária, while in 2019, nearly 200,000 tonnes of pet food were produced annually in the production unit exporting to more than 50 countries around the world, by the end of the five-year investment wave, this amount may reach half a million tonnes per year.

For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, noted that “the Hungarian government contributes to this investment by providing the necessary infrastructure for operation by modernising and developing the road and water network, which also benefits the residents of the region."

Local Sourcing

Nestlé's commitment to Bük extends beyond job creation and production. The company prioritises sourcing nearly half its raw materials from Hungarian suppliers, a proportion poised to grow with the new investments.

This not only bolsters domestic agriculture but also strengthens Hungary's position as the 13th largest global exporter of pet food.

Construction of the new plant began in January, with production lines set for installation in the second half of the year.

Nestlé employs nearly 2,800 people in its three domestic factories and headquarters in Budapest.
