Nestlé Portugal has announced that it is investing €5 million in a project to expand its distribution centre in Avanca.
Avanca is the Swiss multinational’s main distribution centre in Portugal and responsible for the shipment of 80% of the products that Nestlé Portugal sells in the country and abroad.
The project, which should be completed by the end of 2018, aims to increase the area of operation by 4,100 square metres.
Modernisation
The expansion project will also include the modernisation of the entire complex adjoining the main Nestlé factory in Portugal, where brands such as Cerelac, Nestum, Chocapic, and Mokambo, among others, are produced.
From this location, products are sent to 36 countries across three continents: Europe, Asia and Africa. More than 50% of total production is currently exported.
Jörg Deubel, director of logistics operations at Nestlé Portugal, said, "This investment prepares our Avanca distribution centre for the challenges of the next generation, as well as providing greater environmental efficiency in Nestlé's production chain by allowing a significant reduction in intermediate loading movements".
