Legislation drawn up for a new independent Scottish food standards agency was passed by Scottish ministers this week.
The new Food Standards Scotland (FSS) organisation will manage food safety and standards, food labelling, meat inspection and nutrition.
The agency will continue the tasks carried out by the UK's Food Standards Agency (FSA).
The new body was set up following the passing of the Scottish government's Food Bill, which will have the power to confiscate food that does not meet the food labelling rules.
The news follows on from the UK government switching responsibility for nutrition and food labelling in England from the FSA to the departments of health, environment and food and rural affairs.
FFS will be independent, evidence-based, consumer-focused and transparent, said the Scottish government.
