Dutch retailer Plus has announced that it has formed a closed chain network with 14 Dutch pig farmers for sourcing fresh pork and meat products.
Previously, the retailer sourced pork and pork products from various suppliers in the Netherlands, as well as the rest of Europe.
A Transparent Supply Chain
The move, a part of the company's Ken de Keten (know the chain) initiative, will ensure transparency in the supply chain.
It will also allow the retailer to explore new opportunities in terms of implementing better animal welfare standards and eco-friendly measures in its meat supply chain.
The pork sourced from this supply chain will meet the quality standards required for 1-star Beter Leven certification by Dierenbescherming.
The meat will be available in Plus stores from the middle of October, Plus added.
