The Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies (APED) has signed an agreement of cooperation in the agrifood sector with partners CAP, CCP, CIP, CNA and CONFAGRI.
The Code of Good Business Practices aims to add value to the entire food chain and make it more competitive and more familiar to the consumer.
This voluntary self-regulation instrument defines a set of principles and procedures for the agrifood supply chain. Its aim is to strengthen cooperation and transparency and to ensure the promotion of fairness and reciprocity between partners in the production, processing and distribution of consumer products.
The document is in addition to the initiatives already taken by APED in the scope of self-regulation; for example the collaboration protocol signed with CAP in 1995, which has been in force since then and has evolved to the Code of Good Practices, signed in April 2013.
This agreement is also in line with the self-regulatory practices in force in Europe, in particular with the European Code of Good Practice. 'The Supply Chain Initiative' (SCI) was signed by 457 European companies in the distribution and supplier sectors, including the five main food retail groups in Portugal.
