UK-based discount retailer Poundland, which also operates the Dealz franchises in Ireland and Spain, has announced it will open a new state-of-the-art distribution centre in Wigan Borough, in northern England.
The facility will cover some 30,000 square metres, and is located on the site of a former Georgia Pacific facility.
Local councillor David Molyneux praised the news, saying: “We are very pro-business at Wigan Council and have worked closely with the developer, db symmetry, and Poundland to ensure that the plans come to fruition.
“Major investments in the borough are crucial to the local economy and will enable our local residents to access good quality jobs and new opportunities.”
Poundland reportedly chose Wigan ahead of two other possible north of England locations for the site.
