UK supermarket chain Sainsbury’s is adding 230 new Mercedes-Benz Sprinters to its home delivery fleet. The vehicles are mounted with a combination of RVL, Lawrence David and Solomon Commercials bodywork featuring NEOS 100S split system refrigeration units.
Sainsbury’s will maximise load capacity with the move - the roof-mounted design, requires only a slimline evaporator to be fitted inside the body.
An iinitial 230 NEOS 100S system was delivered to Sainsbury’s two years ago.The conventional split system, an alternator-driven unit for commercial vehicles comes with up to six cubic metres of load space, which is mounted externally on the vehicle’s roof creating additional internal space.
The NEOS 100S uses power from the vehicle’s alternator to maintain cooling or heating capacity regardless of engine speed. This guarantees temperature integrity and ensures faster pull-down whilst reducing engine load, resulting in improved fuel consumption. (July 10)
