Frankfurt-based software developer SAP has had a busy month, unveiling an information exchange platform for German retailer Edeka and a new consumer platform for French supermarket Groupe Casino. Both new innovations were showcased at the National Retail Federation’s annual ‘Big Show’ in New York last week.
At Edeka, the software giant developed a ‘SAP Information Interchange’ application, in association with Crossgate, which enables better transparency in dealings between Edeka and its business partners, boosting efficiency in the process. "Efficiently integrating our business partners is essential for greater competitive advantage," said Dr. Reinhard Schutte, board member of EDEKA AG, responsible for finance and IT.
For Casino, SAP has developed a programme that uses ‘precision retailing’ – described as ‘an analytics-driven approach for improving product assortments, pricing and promotions’. According to Scott Flathers, Vice President of Solution Engineering for SAP, the new system is geared towards “influencing a customer’s buying decision while they’re walking down the aisle of a grocery store,” as well as pushing up-selling and cross-selling opportunities to customers while they’re in-store.
