Export sales of Spanish meat and meat products between January and July 2016 reached historic highs totalling €2.5 billion, according to the latest trade figures.
As reported by Carnica.CdeComunicacion.es, this represents a 14.8% increase in sales, compared to the same period in 2015. Volume wise, growth reached 24.9%, according to figures from DataComex.
Alberto Herranz, director of trade association Interprofesional del Porcino de Capa Blanca Español, said that the industry was aiming to hit €4.5 billion in export sales in 2016, "which would mean another historical year."
He pointed out that some of the markets that have experienced growth are China and Japan in Asia, and Poland and Romania in the EU. China has consolidated itself as the biggest market for Spanish meat and meat products, accounting for over 248,000 tonnes.
