Spar Italy Partner, Aspiag Service, has announced the completion of a major renovation of its logistic hub in Udine, Italy.
The Udine distribution centre is on of three centres that services the territories of Emilia-Romagna and north-east Italy.
The company recently invested €1.6 million into renovating the centre which caters to Emilia-Romagna, the north-east, and the westernmost regions of Italy. The centre also exports to affiliated Spar Partners.
Harald Antley, CEO of Aspiag Service commented on the renovations, “We are investing in our local community’s future and highlighting our company’s ongoing development. We have been growing continuously for 20 years, both in terms of growing our distribution centres, our store numbers and our employees.”
The objective of the renovations was to improve the productivity of the distribution centre, as well as increase the sustainability of its operations.
The centre was designed to handle 20-25 fresh product trucks in the receiving zone and 30-35 large delivery vehicles in the outbound bays.
Chilled Logistics
The renovations focused on improving cold chain logistics by introducing special shutters that ensure constant, reliable temperatures in the different sections of the DC, regardless of the weather conditions. This was done in order to improve sustainability, the retailer said.
The centre continued to operate during the renovations, delivering many of the 3,600 SKUs available to Spar supermarkets.
The renovations have resulted in the improvement of the DC’s sustainability, efficiency and productivity, as well as the working conditions for the employees who manage the warehouse’s operations.
