C&C Group plc has announced that its subsidiary Tennent’s, a Scottish lager brand, is to open a new distribution centre in Newbridge, Edinburgh.
The 50,000 square feet warehouse and distribution centre is scheduled to open in October 2020.
The decision to open a new facility is the outcome of a business review of the Group’s supply chain and distribution operations.
Optimise Logistics Capabilities
It aims to optimise the logistics capabilities of Tennent’s and set up a network that efficiently serves customers across Scotland.
Chief operating officer of C&C Group plc, Andrea Pozzi, said, "Our leading route to the market proposition in Scotland is underpinned by our distribution capability and the strength of our multi-beverage offering to our on and off-trade customers.
"Our new depot in Edinburgh also fits with our environmental agenda by reducing product miles traveled and CO2 emissions."
Merging Of Operations
C&G Group plans to merge Matthew Clark’s Glasgow warehouse and transport operation into the Tennent’s facility in Cambuslang and the new depot in Edinburgh.
The company expects to complete the transition by April 2021.
Commenting on the move, Pozzi said, “While overall we are creating a small number of new roles, we recognise that some colleagues in Glasgow may decide that they are unable to transfer to our new facility in Edinburgh.
“We have therefore engaged with those affected by these proposals and their representative organisations, to ensure any transition is managed effectively, employees are supported and the processes are clear.”
The customer contact centre of Matthew Clark will be transferred to either Wellpark Brewery or the Tennent’s Depot in Cambuslang, the company added.
