Upmarket UK retailer Waitrose & Partners has announced plans to open its third online fulfilment centre in Greenford, West London to offer more delivery slots for customers in and around the capital.
The retailer has partnered with the logistics company Wincanton plc to develop and operate this facility.
The fulfilment centre, expected to be operational by December of this year, will create 800 new jobs and boost the retailer’s delivery capacity by almost four times compared to the beginning of this year.
'Surge In Demand'
Waitrose executive director, James Bailey, commented, “While we’ve already pulled forward our online expansion plans by six months we know there are still lots of people who want to shop online with us and currently can’t.
“This is especially the case in London, where we’ve seen a significant and prolonged surge in demand for our online offer. This new centre will help us better serve the London area with a much broader range of slots.”
Waitrose operates online fulfilment centres in Coulsdon and Enfield, which supplement its online deliveries from select shops in London.
