Work has commenced on a new state-of-the-art distribution centre for Aldi in Switzerland, which will cover more than 150,000 square metres.
According to the retailer, the new DC will be 'one of the most modern and sustainable logistics centres in Switzerland'.
The roof of the new development, situated in Perlen, close to Lucerne, will feature the largest photovoltaic installation in Switzerland. Once operational, it will be capable of producing 5,800 kilowatt-hours' worth of electricity.
Work is expected to be completed on the facility in August 2016. Some 80 employees are expected to transfer from Aldi's DC in Dagmersellen to the new facility in September next year.
