X5 Group has opened a new Pyaterochka distribution centre in Velikiy Novgorod in north-west Russia.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the deputy prime minister of the Novgorod region, Evgeny Bogdanov, Pyaterochka general director, Sergei Goncharov, and local suppliers and manufacturers.
Spread across an area of 20,000 square metres, the facility will supply goods to Pyaterochka stores in the Novgorod, Tver, and Pskov regions.
Key Highlights
It is designed to store dry goods and alcoholic beverages, fresh products, and fruits and vegetables, and is equipped with four separate temperature zones.

It is the retail group's fifth distribution centre in the northwestern federal district and employs around 250 people.
A Focal Point
The distribution centre will act as a focal point for local suppliers helping them to maximise sales and send their products to other regions.
State-of-the-art logistics facilities will help in lowering transportation costs, unlocking more benefits for local producers.
At full capacity, the centre will be able to handle products sourced from more than 400 suppliers.
