Aldi Süd has announced it will be launching a number of new checkout innovations in its German stores, as it seeks to simplify the checkout process.
The new POS concepts were recently tested in 30 pilot branches.
More Time To Pack Goods
In a statement, Aldi Süd indicated stores will be successively equipped with at least one extended cash register that can serve two customers at the same time.
These cash registers will be extended and supplemented by a double goods chute with two displays. While a customer pays for his or her purchase, the next purchase can already commence.
This means that the cash registers will also be equipped with two separate EC terminals and receipt printers, providing shoppers with more time to pack their goods.

Self-Checkout Checkouts For 2023
In addition to the existing and new expanded cash registers, Aldi Süd announced selected branches in urban areas will receive self-checkout systems. The rollout of these will commence in the first quarter of 2023.
"Each branch has, depending on its geographical location and structural requirements, individual customer needs and requirements," commented André Giesen, director of national store operations at Aldi Süd. "Our job is to know them, and offer solutions that benefit both our customers and our employees.
"With an optimised checkout area, the discounter reinforces its philosophy 'Good for Everyone'. 'Everyone' also includes employees. As the 'heart' of the stores, they give everything every day, enabling customers to have the best possible shopping experience," he concluded.
