Global technology giant Apple has unveiled its latest mobile innovation, the Apple Watch.
The company states on its website that its goal has always been to make powerful technology more accessible. "More relevant. And ultimately more personal."
It continued: "Apple Watch represents a new chapter in the relationship people have with technology. It’s the most personal product we’ve ever made, because it’s the first one designed to be worn."
Speaking following the unveiling of the Apple wearable at its Spring Forward event on Monday, March 9, Dan Wagner, founder and CEO of eCommerce technology specialist Powa Technologies, told ESM: "The launch of Apple Watch marks the first major combination of wearable technology with mobile payments, further demonstrating the company’s confidence in consumer readiness for mainstream mobile payments."
On the wider mobile payments agenda, he added that wearable technology has a strong synergy with mobile payments with research having found that four in 10 would use wearables to make in-store payments.
"However, only 12.2 per cent of smartphone users currently rate mobile payments as the main reason to invest in a wearable device, and it’s also clear that smartwatches will need to be much more widely accepted and accessible among consumers before they make a significant impact on retail and brand strategy.”
