Auchan Retail Italia has launched a trial service for delivery of online purchases using bicycles.
The service, in conjunction with startup app Take My Things, will be available for customers located within three kilometres of the Auchan hypermarket in Bergamo, and will also soon be extended to the main cities of Northern Italy where the French retailer is present.
The startup seeks to connect, via the app, those seeking to transport good to a particular location, and those available to do so.
As well as using special 'cargo bikes', the service will also explore the use of electric cars to make deliveries.
Take My Things offers a specific transport option for each type of product (frozen, fresh, dry and hot).
Home delivery starts from a minimum order of €5 and is calculated by number of products (€3.95 for each 15 products).
