Auchan Retail France will be testing a new robotic shopping trolley designed to help people with limited mobility, LSA.fr reported.
The device has been developed with seniors and pregnant women in mind. Customers will not need to push the trolley as it follows them automatically, linked to an electronic ID badge that he or she carries on their person.
The shopper must stay within a 1.5-metre radius of the trolley for it to work properly. It will be introduced on a trial basis in Auchan’s supermarket in Englos on November 21.
This trial follows a successful test phase in a Jumbo de Maia store in Portugal (an Auchan-owned banner).
