Supermarket chain Billa has launched the first eBike home-delivery service in Vienna, in collaboration with an Austrian start-up company, ‘gleam technologies GmbH’.
The electronic motor-assisted cargo-bike can transport up to 100 kilograms of goods, including chilled goods and can travel at a speed of up to 25 km per hour.
The cargo-bike was designed by ‘gleam technologies GmbH’ and fitted with an electric motor, as part of the E-freight project, 'Emilia'.
The E-Freight logistics project was established to develop more sustainable transport solutions in urban areas. The project is funded by the Climate and Energy Fund.
"We were looking for a service innovation, to make shopping even more convenient, while being environmentally friendly. The Billa Cargo eBike service combines home delivery with sustainable technology, and we are delighted to be the first to offer our customers this first-class service,” said Billa board member Josef Siess.
