Brazilian supermarkets have started offering exclusive discounts via shoppers' smartphones.
The Pão de Açúcar supermarket and Extra hypermarket chains have launched a promotional campaign to inform consumers of discounts that will be available on mobile phones, rather than through traditional channels such as brochures, posters and TV advertising.
The differential of the Meu Desconto (My Discount) programme is that it provides bespoke, unique offers for each customer, depending on their purchase history.
According to retailer Grupo Pão de Açúcar (GPA), owner of both store banners, the minimum discount will be 15%, but there will be no maximum percentage – that will depend on negotiations with suppliers.
Application Process
To qualify for the discount, the customer must download the Clube Extra and Pão de Açúcar Mais applications, available for the iOS and Android systems. Customers who are not yet enrolled in the loyalty programmes will have access to promotions suggested by the application.
After validation, customers just need to pick their chosen product, go to the checkout and identify themselves, after which time the discount will be applied.
