Carrefour has deployed beacon-geotags in its Romanian hypermarkets, which will allow the retailer to alert consumers to offers as they move through its stores, LSA reports.
The geotags will also help shoppers navigate the stores themselves.
If a shopper passes, for example, the zone of a Carrefour hypermarket dedicated to alcohol, a number of promotional offers and discounts will appear on his or her tablet or smartphone. The technology was adapted by the Romanian division of IT firm OnyX.
It says that the software allows a shopping experience that is “guided, personalised and enriched by material delivered to mobile devices.”
This technology, which has been tested in a similar format in France, also allows for Carrefour to monitor its Romanian customers’ buying habits, and thus alter store layouts according to them.
