Carrefour has used its second Junior Innovation Day (JID) to test and reward the innovation of young minds, including concepts such as 'Easy Operation Carts', which rethink the way in which goods flow through hypermarkets, and 'Carrefour Collect’N Cook’, a click ‘n' collect concept.
Engineering and business schools ESSEC, Arts et Métiers, Strate, Dauphine, Lisaa and EMLYON, were involved in the organisation of the event, and have partnership agreements with the retailer. The event was chaired by Christophe Rabatel, Carrefour executive director for convenience and cash & carry stores in France.
The supermarket chain notes that “Since it was first held last year, a number of concepts have emerged from the creative interaction between students and Carrefour's teams.”
The ‘Carrefour Collect’N Cook’ project was selected by the judges as the prize-winner.
Other shortlisted entries included ‘J’humanisme’, a strategy that uses digital technologies to make hypermarkets more human; ‘Carre’Truck’, a mobile shop on wheels, supplied by hypermarkets; and ‘Le bar à caisse’: a new area where customers can enjoy a few pleasant moments when they are at the checkout.
