Carrefour France has announced that it has combined its customer loyalty programme with Apple Pay for use with Apple Wallet.
The move will allow customers in France to use their iPhones or Apple watches for contactless payment and avail all benefits offered by the Carrefour loyalty programme.
Marie Cheval, executive director of group financial services and hypermarkets at Carrefour, explained, “This integration with Apple Wallet and Apple Pay is unique in Europe and provides our customers with a new service designed to make their day-to-day lives easier.
“Contactless payment is an increasingly popular alternative, and by integrating the Carrefour customer loyalty card into Apple Wallet, we are doing more than simply providing an additional payment option – customers can now pay for their shopping seamlessly, in a completely contactless manner."
How It Works
Customers are required to add their Carrefour loyalty cards to the Apple Wallet via their iPhones or by logging on to their Carrefour accounts on the retailer’s website.
Once the loyalty card is added to the wallet, shoppers can pay and collect loyalty points by bringing their iPhone or Apple Watch close to the payment terminal.
The technology does not require the scanning of barcodes, or opening of an app to use the Carrefour customer loyalty card.
Secure Transaction
Each purchase through Apple Pay is not limited to €50, since it is authenticated with Face ID, Touch ID or the phone's access code.
Apple’s vice-president of Internet Services, Jennifer Bailey, added, “Using Apple Pay and the Carrefour customer loyalty card in Apple Wallet isn't just simple and practical: The power of iPhone means that all transactions are more secure and people's personal data is better protected.”
In autumn, the retailer plans to introduce the use of Apple Pay for online purchases on carrefour.fr and the Carrefour app.
